Adult Reconstruction
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a leader in orthopaedic education. The Adult Reconstruction specialty of Feinberg’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery consists of a team of four fellowship-trained, full-time faculty members. Through our program, medical students and residents have the opportunity for comprehensive exposure to Adult Reconstruction.
What We Do
Education
Our specialists give students and residents exposure to:
- Primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty
- Hip resurfacing
- Computer assisted surgery
- Minimally invasive techniques
- Partial knee arthroplasty, including medial, lateral and patella
- Femoral joint arthroplasties
- Periprostethic fracture management
- Hip salvage procedures such as core decompression, hip arthroscopy and periacetabular osteotomy
Residents and students have ample opportunity to participate in our academic calendar that includes weekly adult reconstruction conferences, journal clubs and departmental Grand Rounds, as well as joint service rotations.

Research
Patient Care
We perform approximately 1,500 joint replacement surgeries annually. The combination of our minimally invasive techniques, pain protocols and anesthetic techniques, working in conjunction with our anesthesia team, allows for a successful rapid rehabilitation program so our patients can return to their lives in a timely fashion.
